Cambodia (Part 4): The Jungle Temples

My previous posts from Cambodia focused on the temples near Siem Reap. This makes sense because that is where some of the most spectacular and most accessible temples are. But, one of the nice things about hiring local photographers to show you the ropes is that they tend to know about or can get you to places that you would never be able to get to on your own. I owe a huge amount of credit for this post to the folks at Peace of Angkor because without them I would never have

Cambodia (Part 3): A Circuit of Temples

Hey! If you've missed parts 1 and 2 and you would like to check them out before moving on you can find them HERE. Way back in 2014 my father and I went to Cambodia for a few days when he came to visit me in China. For parts one and two of this series you can go HERE and read all about Tonle Sap Lake and Angkor Thom. This post will pick up where we left off, and that would be on the morning of Day 3. We got picked up super early that day because our goal was to photograph the

    Cambodia (Part 2): Angkor Thom

Let's get back up to speed shall we? Back in 2014 my dad came to visit me in China and we decided to take advantage of his time in Asia and go to Cambodia. We booked a few days of some photography guides from Peace of Angkor Tours since we didn't have much time to plan the trip and there is just so much to see. On our first day we visited the floating village of Tonlé Sap Lake and I wrote about it HERE if you want to truly get up to speed. Ok, now that we're caught up we can

A Month in China (Part 12): Huashan

After traveling traveling around western China for nearly a month, this was one of the last photos I took. I decided it was a good idea to strap myself in and go for a walk on some wooden planks attached to the side of a mountain 3,000 feet above nothing. How did I get to this point you ask? Well, let's go back...to the day before. We left our little apartment in Xi'an and headed to the train station where we got on the first train to the town of Huashan. The town sits at the

A Month in China (Part 10): Zhangye and Xining

We got on a bus to leave Rebkong and insodoing left the last small town on our journey through the Amdo region (don't worry, not the last stop on this trip). Our destination was Xining (she-ning) [MAP] the capital of Qinghai province. We didn't stick around in Xining for too long this time because our next destination was the town of Zhangye (jang-yuh). Why Zhangye, you ask? Because just outside of this town is something called the rainbow mountains (google it, or better yet,

A Month in China (Part 8): Labrang Monastery

Before we get started today, I just wanted to announce that we are on the back stretch of this series! Hey, maybe that means that sometime soon I will post something about somewhere other than China. For those of you who have missed any of the parts in the series you can go HERE to check them all out. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming. --------- After what felt like a lifetime we finally said goodbye to Langmusi. Our next destination was Xiahe in Gansu Provinc
